El arte de los olvidados - The art of the forgotten

Lola Barrera tras años de médica, dio un giro a su vida dedicándose a la pintura y el cine hasta que su vida le dio un nuevo giro al ser mamá de una hija con síndrome Down. Comenzó a relacionarse con ese mundo y encontró a Judith Scott (artista estadounidense con Down sordomuda) sobre la cual decidió realizar un documental llamado "¿Qué tienes debajo del sombrero?". Al comenzarlo le impactó el Creative Growth Art Center, lugar donde Judith trabajaba junto a otras personas con discapacidad. Aquí se alentaba la creación outsider o art brut. Lola creo en España una plataforma de creación contemporánea dirigida a personas con discapacidad intelectual (2007) llamada "Debajo del sombrero", fue el nuevo giro que dio su vida. Al ver una de las obras decidió crear un videoartista como ya hizo anteriormente Belén Sánchez con retraso mental en su cortometraje homónimo.
El fruto de varios años de trabajo se resume en: Estar receptivos a lo que trae cada persona", es de aquí de donde parte la gran pregunta ¿QUÉ ES EL ARTE?
Para Tomás Buñuelos esta gente rompe con la grandilocuencia del artistero. El considera que es casi el arte de verdad.
Para Jean Dubuffet son creaciones elaboradas en medio de una soledad dramática y que tienen como único objeto encantar a su autor.
Ángel Gabilondo considera que es arte, no como mera expresión o manifestación, sino como generación de posibilidades de belleza y de vida. En los trabajos realizados por estas personas se hace patente el enigma de la vida y el desarrollo del que brota la necesidad.

Ángel Gabilondo considered to be art, not as a mere expression or manifestation, but as generating possibilities of beauty and life. In the work of these people is evident the riddle of life and development of the burgeoning need.
